Moab
With a great love for outdoor adventure and activities the client approached Trout Architects to design a home that not only took advantage of the phenomenal views in Moab, Utah, but also to invite the splendor of the outside into their living space. Existing site conditions were ripe with dramatic views west toward the town of Moab and North toward the famous red slick rock.
The design of the home applies great effort not to disturb the fragile red desert of the existing site. The house is located on a high rugged ridge and rock outcropping with the three main wings of the house extending outward to follow a singular ridge. The rusting low slope roof with large cantilevered eaves allows the house to the blend into the surrounding red desert. Red rock exterior walls protect the interior of the house from adjacent neighbors and the south sun while tying the house into the native desert site.
The main living and dining wing flows on a portion of the natural level area to the north while the entry/garage wing follow along the same level area to the south. The third wing extends to the west and houses the main sleeping quarters along another singular ridge. A tower structure has been incorporated into the main core of the home to offer higher views while allowing space for hobbies and quests for the residing clients.
