The definitive addition
to the Boise Art Museum was designed by Trout Architects in collaboration
with Mark Mack of Los Angeles. The completed project cost slightly more
than 1 million dollars, financed by 15 foundations, 30 corporations
and 450 private contributors.
A new entry was
designed to face Capitol Boulevard. A previous remodel had left the
entry difficult to identify from the primary pedestrian and vehicular
byway. By moving the entry to the west side, a new lobby space was created,
allowing for the addition of a museum store and making the original
1937 sandstone entry portal into the central focus of the lobby.
Additional gallery,
administrative and storage space was also added, nearly doubling the
museum’s size. The Boise Art Museum is now suited to accommodate
both its permanent collection and temporary exhibits, ranging from traditional
paintings on the wall to complex and unique installation works.
