the bown
house
The Bown House
sits on its original site at the end of East Victory Road, enhancing the
Riverside Elementary School campus. This two-story sandstone structure,
constructed in 1879, is on the National Register of Historic Places. The
purpose of the renovation was to return the house to its early 1890’s
splendor while incorporating a museum educational program dedicated to
pioneer life.
The house is the centerpiece of the Elementary School
Education Curriculum Program. The Idaho Historic Preservation Society,
the Independent School District and Trout Architects have provided a
monument through which young people can step back in time.
The
Bown House received the National Trust for Historic Preservation Honor
Award, the Idaho Heritage Trust, Glen Janss Environmental Excellence
Award, and an Idaho Historic Preservation Council Orchid Award.
