Located in the foothills of Boise, Idaho, this eat-in kitchen addition blurs landscape and architectural strategies. The envelope of the addition mimics form and colors of the surrounding landscape. Stone removed from the existing house is pushed outward, cladding new garden and patio retaining walls. The existing roof structure is allowed to pierce the new volume, initiating and attenuating the thresholds of old and new, inside and outside. Materials include gun-blued steel, maple, concrete, stone, and glass.
This residence has been featured in the Idaho Statesman on more than one occasion as well as showcased in Sunset Magazine.
