The client asked, “Can you transform a 1964 motel into a contemporary, comfortable hotel experience with a limited budget?”
Our first move was to transform the exterior with machined aluminum rail and a lush garden courtyard. Next, we cut the length of a long corridor, replaced the roof with a continuous skylight, raising the ceiling 15 feet, lit it from the interior and designed an exterior polychrome lighting system to match.
Inside, the guest rooms were completely renovated – outfitted with custom, solid walnut cabinetry with translucent resin countertops, custom fabric headboards, Nelson bubble lamps, Cherner chairs and upholstered furnishings – all coordinated with the multiple, colorful palettes developed for the project. Bathrooms feature soaking tubs, walk-in rain-showers and floor-to-ceiling glass tile.
A new lobby and lounge complete the experience. Luxurious, urban and completely comfortable, the walnut interior mirrors the exterior courtyard stair screens and provides the frame for a cocktail by the fire.
